I have always been told that coeliac disease does have a genetic link, and the only reason it has not been more widely discussed is due to mis-diagnosis. Blogs and twitter are full of people saying they were not diagnosed for years, and as soon as they went on to the GF diet their symptoms disappeared.
We believe that my dads great auntie had coeliacs, but she was never diagnosed. Until more doctors are aware of coeliac disease, and are better trained at recognising the symptoms, research will always be hindered.
